Dr. Jamil Momand has served on the New Horizon School – Los Angeles Board since 2006. Previously, he served on the Islamic Center of Southern California Board and was Chair of the Board. He was a previous member of the Education Council of the Islamic Center and he was the Principal of the Sunday School at the Islamic Center. His two daughters previously attended New Horizon School Pasadena. Currently, Dr. Momand occasionally delivers khutbas to New Horizon Schools. Professionally, he is a professor of biochemistry at Cal State LA University where he teaches chemistry, biochemistry, and bioinformatics courses. At the university, he heads a research laboratory that explores molecular mechanisms of resistance to chemotherapy agents in cancers. He is the author of the textbook “Concepts in Bioinformatics and Genomics” (Oxford University Press). He cares deeply about developing the American-Muslim identity.
